‘Challenge Yourself to Change Your World’ - Volunteer with International Service on ICS!

What is ICS?

International Citizen Service (ICS) is a once-in-a-lifetime volunteering opportunity open to all 18-25 year olds, backed by the UK government and run by a group of UK charities working in countries around the world.

In Ghana, International Service (a UK charity) offers 12-week In-Country (Ghanaian) Volunteer placements on the ICS programme. Our projects are based in the Northern Region and the Upper East Region, where we work in partnership with local development organisations in areas such as Female Empowerment, Disability Rights, Livelihoods Skills Support and Education.

Volunteering on ICS with International Service gives Ghanaian youth the chance to work in teams with young people from the UK on our development projects, whilst living side-by-side in host communities. Through a 12-week ICS placement, you can make a meaningful contribution to fighting poverty, whilst gaining transferable professional and personal skills that will stay with you long after volunteering.

Who can take part in ICS?

ICS is open to all 18-25 year olds regardless of background, educational qualifications, disability or work history.

You must however meet the following criteria:

We also recruit volunteer ICS Team Leaders for 6-month placements, between the ages of 23-35. The number of Team Leader positions available is small, so further details will be provided when applications for Team Leader positions open.

When can I apply for ICS?

ICS placements take place throughout the whole year, each lasting 12 weeks in length. Our ICS placements therefore start approximately every January, April, July and September.

Our application process opens roughly 2 months before any ICS volunteering start date (for instance, if you wish to start volunteering in April, you should be seeking to apply in February). You should only apply in the application period (2 months before) when you are able to start volunteering.

How can I apply for ICS?

Applying to ICS is straightforward! Once our applications open (2 months before any start date), you can return to this page to download our application form.

Further details on how to apply, and where to send any completed application forms will be available at this time (on this page).

When applying, you must:

Remember, you can apply to ICS regardless of your background; we do not need you to send your CV.
